Naval Systems Inc. Video Production Project

Some projects remind me why I love this work. Back in March, I had the chance to travel to Washington, D.C. for a full-scale video production project with Naval Systems Inc. (NSI), one of our clients, and their marketing agency partner, AKA Communications. It was one of those trips that blended storytelling, strategy, and yes, a little adventure.

From Fargo and Nashville to the Nation's Capital
I flew in from Nashville, Tennessee, while Luke Steichen, our Head of Production at Chezy, flew in from Fargo, North Dakota. We met in Baltimore, Maryland, grabbed a rental car, and made our way into D.C. before diving into the work. With a few hours to spare, we decided to do some sightseeing.
Our first stop was Old Ebbitt Grill, a classic restaurant just steps from the White House. Luke went with the sriracha chicken bowl, and I chose the seafood eggs Benedict. No contest, mine was the better pick. After lunch, we walked off the food by exploring the National Mall. We saw the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, and what we lovingly called “the national stick thing in the air” (the Washington Monument). Coming from snowy Fargo and brisk Nashville, the sunny 60-degree weather was a welcome change, even if it left us both sunburned.
Down to Lexington Park
That evening, we drove down to Lexington Park, Maryland, where NSI’s headquarters are located. For dinner, we made our way to Solomons Island and sat outside at The Lighthouse Restaurant & Dock Bar. The view was stunning, and the food was even better. We both had cream of crab soup and Icelandic haddock, which turned out to be the best meal of the entire trip. You can’t beat fresh seafood right off the coast.
What We Came to Do
The next day, it was time to get to work. NSI brought us in to create a suite of videos that would help them tell their story, explain their technology, and build their brand. The deliverables covered a wide range of needs, from culture-building and recruiting to product explainers and promotional content.
Here’s what we created:
Company Storytelling Video –
This was the heart of the project. We told NSI’s story through interviews and visuals that captured the essence of who they are and why their work matters.
RAVEN Explainer Video –
RAVEN is one of NSI’s internal systems. It’s powerful, but like many internal tools, it needed to be explained clearly. We used screen recordings, motion graphics, and voiceover to make something complex feel simple and engaging.
ASCEND Explainer and Promo –
ASCEND is another internal platform. For this, we created both a technical explainer and a high-energy promo video tailored for an upcoming conference in Florida. The hype video was built to play on a loop at their booth and get people excited.
Recruiting and Culture Video –
This one focused on NSI’s people. Their values, their mission, and the kind of work culture they offer. More and more companies are investing in these kinds of videos, and for good reason. Whether you’re in Nashville, Fargo, or anywhere in between, people want to work somewhere that feels meaningful.
Behind the Scenes
Our day was packed with interviews, B-roll footage, and screen captures of software in action. We also filmed natural, candid office moments that added authenticity to the final edits. We worked closely with Angel from AKA Communications, who helped guide the creative process and made sure everything stayed on track.
The NSI team was fantastic. They were organized, collaborative, and clearly passionate about what they do. That kind of energy always makes for a smoother shoot and better content.
Why It Mattered
At Chezy, we work with businesses in Nashville, Fargo, Tennessee, North Dakota, and beyond. No matter the industry, we see the same truth: video production works best when it tells a real story. NSI’s work is highly technical. Our job was to translate that complexity into something clear, human, and inspiring.
We didn’t just create videos. We created connection points. These videos will help NSI engage future clients, attract top talent, and strengthen their brand presence online and in-person.
Final Takeaways
After wrapping up production, Luke, Angel, and I made the drive back to Baltimore. Luke flew home to Fargo and I went back to Nashville.
It was a quick trip, but a meaningful one. Here’s what it reminded me:
Video goes far beyond marketing. The best companies use it for internal communication, training, hiring, and sales.
Teamwork is everything. Collaborating with Angel and the NSI team helped us bring the creative vision to life.
Storytelling always comes first. Even in the most technical industries, the human side of the story is what resonates.
And yes, next time, I’ll remember to pack sunscreen.
