TruGrid Video Production Project

Some video shoots are all business. Others turn into a mix of early mornings, beach sunsets, unexpected police stops, and the best tacos you’ve ever had. Our trip to South Texas for TruGrid was one of those unforgettable shoots that reminded us why we love this work.
As part of our Chezy on the Road series, we’re sharing the behind-the-scenes stories of our travels across the country. This time, we headed to Brownsville, Harlingen, and South Padre Island to work with TruGrid, a growing company with a bold vision and a big presence across the Valley.
Here’s what we captured, who we met, what we ate, and why this trip stuck with us.
The Video Marketing Project
TruGrid brought us in to help tell their story. Not just the what, but the why. This wasn’t a one-video job. We created a full set of content to showcase their brand, their people, and their projects.
Here’s what we filmed:
- Brand awareness videos that highlight TruGrid’s values and mission
- Safety culture content showing their commitment to doing the work the right way
- Project overviews of their major work in Brownsville and Harlingen
- Sunrise drone footage to capture the full scale and beauty of their sites
It was a packed couple of days, filled with wide-open job sites, boots in the dirt, drones in the sky, and cameras rolling constantly. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Video Crew
For this one, it was just two of us – me on video, and Shad supporting production and working with the client team. We kept the gear light and the schedule tight. With so many moving parts on the ground, it helped to stay flexible and ready to adapt.
Whether it was racing to catch the perfect light or coordinating with site leads for interviews, the two-man setup made it easy to keep things moving and capture what we needed without slowing anyone down.
The First Surprise
Every trip has a story, and this one started pretty quickly.
As soon as we arrived on South Padre Island, Shad got pulled over. Not for anything wild, just five miles over the speed limit. But the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. We were just minutes from the beach, winding down from a long drive and getting ready for the next day’s shoot. Instead, we found ourselves pulled over, talking to a very serious officer who clearly wasn’t in a storytelling mood.
No ticket, just a warning. But it set the tone for a trip full of little surprises.
Food Worth Talking About
We ate well. Really well.
The Valley is known for incredible Mexican food and fresh seafood, and we made a point to find the best of both. But if we had to name just one spot that stood out, it’s El Ultimo Taco Taqueria in Brownsville.
No hype, no Instagram aesthetic, just perfect tacos and salsas that hit hard. It’s the kind of place you think about for weeks after. If you ever find yourself near Brownsville, do yourself a favor and go.
Outside of Work
The workdays were long, but we carved out time to take it all in. After wrapping one evening, we made our way to the beach and just hung out for a while. The ocean, the breeze, the peace after a full day on set, it was exactly what we needed.
Moments like that don’t always make it into the videos, but they’re a big part of what makes these trips memorable. When you’re traveling for work, it’s easy to get caught in the hustle. Slowing down, even for a little while, helps you stay grounded and present.
What Made It Memorable
TruGrid is doing big things. Their projects are complex, and the scale is massive. But the team? Completely down to earth.
What made this shoot stand out was how genuine everyone was. There was no corporate fluff. Just people who care about doing good work and doing it safely. From project managers to field crews, everyone showed up with energy, respect, and a clear sense of pride in what they’re building.
It was easy to get great footage because the culture spoke for itself. The way they communicate, the way they support their teams, it came through in every conversation and every shot.
Sunrise Was Worth It
We set alarms for before 5 a.m. to catch sunrise drone footage, and it paid off. The light was perfect, the air was calm, and the footage we captured felt cinematic in the best way.
There’s something about seeing a job site from the sky at golden hour that brings the whole project into perspective. You see the scale, the precision, the planning, it all comes together in a way that’s hard to explain until you see it on screen.
If We Had To Sum It Up
Three words: bold, energizing, and real.
TruGrid’s work is bold in scale and ambition.
The trip was energizing, from the early mornings to the creative problem-solving in the field. And the people were as real as it gets, no polish, just pride.
That combination made for a shoot we won’t forget anytime soon.
Final Thoughts
This trip reminded us of the value in telling stories at the ground level. It’s one thing to explain what a company does. It’s another thing entirely to show it through real people, real places, and real conversations.
Working with TruGrid was a reminder of why we do what we do. We get to help great companies bring their work to life. We get to meet passionate people, explore new places, and capture moments that matter. And sometimes, we get tacos and a trip to the ocean too.
Big thanks to the TruGrid team for welcoming us into your world and trusting us with your story. We’re proud of what we created together, and we’re excited to see how you use these videos to keep building momentum.
