Being part of a video project can be exciting, but it’s natural to feel a little nervous too. With a little preparation, you’ll be able to shine on camera and make the most of the opportunity. Whether you’re giving a testimonial or creating content for your business, feeling confident and ready will make all the difference. Here’s Chezy Video Co.’s simple guide on how to prepare for your Chezy video shoot.
1. What to Wear for Your Video Shoot
Choosing the right fit can make a big difference in how you feel and look on camera. While there is no formal dress code, the following tips can help you prepare for your Chezy video shoot and feel confident on set.
Dress how you want to be seen: Your outfit should reflect how you want to be perceived on camera. Whether you are sharing a professional story or giving a personal testimonial, make sure your clothing aligns with the image you want to project.
Go for solid colors: Because bold patterns and bright colors can be distracting on camera, it is best to choose solid colors. This helps keep the focus on you rather than your clothes.
Limit logos and accessories: Although we recommend avoiding large unrelated logos or flashy accessories, feel free to wear company apparel. Doing so reinforces your brand and gives the video a more cohesive look.
Bring a couple of outfits: If you are one of the main people in the videos or will be on camera more than once, consider bringing a couple of outfit options. This provides flexibility if we decide to change things up for variety.
2. What to Say During Your Video Interview
Being prepared with your key message will help make your video shoot much easier. Here’s how to get ready
Know your main points: Before the shoot, think about what you want to communicate. Whether you’re talking about a service, product, or your personal experience, keep your core message in mind.
Review your questions: We’ll send you a list of questions before the shoot. So spend some time thinking through your answers. Don’t worry about memorizing a script or anything, just know the key points you want to hit. If there IS a scripted video we have for you, don’t worry, we have a teleprompter that I’m reading off of right now that makes it super easy.
Be authentic: Authenticity is what connects you with your audience. Don’t stress about being perfect, just speak from the heart. We can always edit the footage later, so there’s no need to get everything right the first time.
Don’t overthink it: It’s more important to focus on your tone and body language than to worry about exactly what you’re going to say. Let your natural style come through. We’ll be there to help you through the interview and we’ll take care of the details in the editing process!
3. How to Say It: Tips for Speaking on Camera
Speaking on camera may feel intimidating, but there are simple ways to make it easier:
Relax and be yourself: The best videos are always the ones where the person seems natural and at ease. Take a deep breath and remember, you’re having a conversation, not performing.
Pause and think: If you need a moment to think, take it! You don’t need to rush. It’s okay to pause and collect your thoughts before speaking. We can cut any pauses when we edit.
We can edit the footage: Don’t worry about making everything perfect, this isn’t live.. If you stumble or forget something, we’ll edit that out. The goal is to capture your thoughts and message, and we’ll make sure it’s polished in post-production.
Interview time: Typically, your interview will take about 20 minutes or less. We’ll keep things efficient, so you don’t need to worry about spending too much time in front of the camera.
4. B-Roll Footage: What It Is and Why It Matters
B-Roll footage complements your main interview or testimonial by providing action shots that help illustrate your points and keep the video engaging.
What is B-Roll?: B-Roll footage is essentially the extra shots that help tell the full story. For example, if you’re giving a testimonial for a dentist, B-Roll might include footage of you in the dentist’s chair or interacting with the dentist. It adds context and depth to the story, making the video more engaging.
Why it’s important: B-Roll footage helps break up the interview and makes the video feel more dynamic. It adds visual interest and gives us more footage to work with during the editing process.
Be ready for some action shots: During your shoot, we may ask for some action shots to be filmed as B-Roll. This could include simple activities like talking to a colleague, using a product, or interacting with a service. You don’t need to worry about what you’re saying during these shots, there won’t be any audio recorded for B-Roll. You can talk to someone, share a laugh, or engage in conversation as we capture the action.
