As a videographer for Chezy Video Co., I’ve had the privilege of filming at many events, but there’s something special about the ND Governors’ Cup. This annual event in North Dakota brings together business leaders, local community members, and sponsors for an unforgettable day of golf, networking, and celebrating the great state of North Dakota. But what made this Governors’ Cup Video Production Project even more memorable wasn’t just the action on the golf course or the awesome reception, it was the energy, the connections, and the stories we were able to capture on camera.

This video allowed us to share the experience with both attendees and those who could not be there. How Did Video Level Up the Event?

What Was Your Favorite Part of Filming at the ND Governors’ Cup?
For me, the best part of filming this event was witnessing experiences I had never had before. I am not a golfer or a trap shooter, but the energy of the event made it easy to get into the spirit.
One of the coolest moments was filming with Governor Armstrong. He is a busy man, yet it was great to see him relax and chat about casual topics like his dog and everyday life. Moments like this showed the genuine connection between the attendees and the people they respect. Capturing those interactions made the day feel truly special.
How Did You Prepare for the Shoot Day?
Put on sunscreen.
Haha, just kidding. Well, not really.
As a videographer, preparation is key to keeping everything on track. My first step is always making sure my gear is ready. That includes cameras, lenses, tripods, sound equipment, and plenty of extra batteries. You never know when you will need a backup.
Beyond the technical prep, I focus on getting in the right mindset. My goal for the day is to capture not only the event but also the spirit and energy behind it. I stay mentally ready to notice what is happening around me and spot those perfect moments as they unfold.
Of course, sunscreen is also part of the plan. It was a sunny day in Bismarck, after all. In the end, preparation is about making sure everything is in place so we can start strong the moment the event begins.
How Does the ND Governors' Cup Compare to Other Events You’ve Filmed?
If I’m being honest, this was one of the most fun events I’ve filmed. The energy was contagious from start to finish, and there was always something happening. As a result, it never got boring. Between the golf, the trap shooting, the socializing, and the speeches, there was no shortage of material to capture.
In addition, the hosts were amazing. They were flexible, hospitable, and welcoming. They even offered rides, snacks, and drinks in the golf cart, which made us feel like part of the team rather than just contractors. That sense of inclusion is something that sticks with you, and it made filming the event a more personal experience. Ultimately, the ND Governors’ Cup went out of their way to make everyone feel valued.
What Was the Most Memorable Moment?
For me, the most memorable moment was spending time with Governor Armstrong. He is someone who is constantly busy with important work. Having candid conversations with him and seeing the fun he was having was really cool. It humanized him and revealed a side of public figures that many people do not often see.
In addition, seeing legislators in this kind of relaxed, informal setting captured the essence of the event. It showed that everyone, no matter their role, could come together and enjoy the day.
Can You Share Any Behind-the-Scenes Moments from the Shoot Day?
I really appreciated how welcoming everyone was. It felt great to be treated like I belonged. Attendees were eager to chat and ask questions about me and my work. We had conversations about both business and life, and it was honestly one of the most memorable parts of the shoot.
One of the best moments of the day was when Shad’s dad made this insane putt out on the golf course. While we were filming some b-roll, he stepped up to take a putt and absolutely nailed it. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. It was one of those spontaneous moments that couldn’t have happened at a better time!
What Was Your Favorite Clip?
My favorite clip has to be from the first night of the event. Governor Armstrong was speaking, and as he delivered his speech, the clouds parted, and the sunlight came through in a way that made him look almost like he was glowing. It was one of those spontaneous, cinematic moments that you can’t plan for, but when it happens, you know it’s going to be a showstopper. Watching it come together on camera, I knew it was going to be a highlight shot of the whole video. We were so excited to see how it turned out!
